The boom of the internet era led to a major impact on 'hotel spirit'. In this period we saw the introduction of phone cameras, the restriction of privacy, and the eruption of social media. All putting hotels under more scrutiny than ever before and a pressure to control and uphold their reputation and positive online presence. However, with this came a lack of uniqueness and originality, with the modern aesthetic becoming the norm, reflective of the cultural 'internet era' zeitgeist movement of that period. Now, a wave of change has arrived, a realisation of what André Balasz famously said: that original ideas must be preserved in order to "capture the spirit of the moment, which changes all the time."
